Reminders

Monday 5th May - Bank Holiday - No School

Thursday 8th May - VE Day

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you've had a positive week and enjoyed the sunshine.

The GCSE exams are now underway; it's a stressful time for Year 11 as well as those supporting them at home. If you would like support during this exam season, please do get in touch. In the main, the year group are working hard and following their exam revision timetables. Our additional revision sessions are open to all; it would be good to see more pupils attending them in the run up to their exams. Congratulations to our Year 11 MFL pupils who took their speaking exams this week. The MFL team were overjoyed with the quality of them.

Although it's early days, our data shows that the new mobile phone lockers continue to have a positive impact on pupils' focus and attitude to learning in lessons and around the school at breaks. Our number of 'child on child' negative incidents are at an all time low; Years 7-11 have collectively achieved over 97% of positive to negative behaviour points over the last 2 weeks. Long may this last!

On Wednesday we will be marking the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. Mrs Allsop has been busy planning the day. We are all looking forward to our whole school picnic on the field, along with a number of musical performances and games that would've been played in wartime. Please do encourage your child to enter the bake-off. All cakes made at home must have the ingredients listed on the tin please. Our LORIC group have baked some lovely cakes and scones. We will cater for those with allergies. If you have a picnic blanket at home, please send it in with your child.

We are in the process of changing catering companies. Many of you will know that HC3 will cease trading this year. We will be moving over to a large company called Aspens, I'm excited by this change, having visited 2 other schools within our Trust who use Aspens. The quality of food is excellent and there is a greater range of healthy choices at a more affordable price. Aspens will take over on August 1st 2025. I will share a range of their menus in due course.

As temperatures drop back down to seasonal norms, please ensure your child attends in normal uniforms. Coats may be left at home for the rest of the term. If rain is forecast, please encourage your child to wear their coat. Trainers are not permitted.

Many thanks to Mr and Mrs Draper for allowing their beautiful horses Charlie and Lola to pay us a visit this week. We all loved watching them graze on the top field, in addition to providing our BTEC Animal Care group with the opportunity to carry out healthcare checks for their coursework.

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend, fingers crossed the sun shines.

Nicky Goodridge, Head of School
