Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you’re well.
As we move further into the autumn term, it has been wonderful to see school life in full swing. There is a real sense of energy around the school, with pupils embracing every opportunity both inside and outside the classroom.
One of the highlights of the term so far has been the excellent attendance at our extra-curricular clubs. Participation is higher than it was at this point last year, which is fantastic to see. Our clubs play an important role in helping pupils develop new skills, interests and friendships, and we are delighted that so many are taking advantage of these opportunities.
With the sporting season now underway, our teams have begun competing in district competitions. Huge congratulations go to our KS4 Basketball Team and our Year 7 Girls' Football Team for representing Danebury last week. The performances, commitment and teamwork on display were a credit to the school. We are incredibly proud of all the pupils who have taken part and wish all our teams the very best for the competitions ahead.
This week I also had the pleasure of meeting with the School Council for our second meeting of the year. I always enjoy hearing pupils' ideas for improving our school and listening to their creative suggestions for raising money for charity. Pupil voice is a key part of school improvement at Danebury, and it is important that our young people see the impact their contributions can have.
A great example of this can be seen in our Science Department. During the summer term, the School Council suggested purchasing new science chairs with back support to improve comfort during lessons. I am delighted to say that the new chairs and tables arrived this week and are already in use. This is a wonderful example of the positive difference a pupil's voice can make when ideas are carefully considered and acted upon.
The School Council is currently busy organising a Colour Run on Thursday 23rd October. Funds raised will support Simon Says, a charity that provides valuable support for so many young people who have lost family members. In addition to sponsorship from the Colour Run, proceeds from a cake sale and our £1 non-uniform donation will also be donated to this very worthwhile cause. We hope as many pupils as possible will get involved and support the event.
Staffing Update
We are pleased to share that Miss Rea will be returning to school at the end of this week. Miss Rea will be undertaking a phased return over the coming weeks, and we look forward to welcoming her back to the Danebury community. During this period, lessons will continue to be supported by Mr Ade, our Maths supply teacher, ensuring continuity for pupils.
We are looking forward to interviewing this week for the posts we’ve had advertised. I will update you once we’ve appointed.
Trips
Ardeche Water Sports Trip - Final Places Available
This is the last call for pupils wishing to secure a place on the Ardeche Water Sports Trip next July. There are only a few places remaining, so families interested in this exciting opportunity are encouraged to contact the school as soon as possible.
Looking Ahead: Residential Trips 2027-2028
To help families plan ahead, I thought I’d share the link again for our proposed residential trips programme for the next 18 months, including opportunities for outdoor education, cultural experiences and international travel. Proposed Extra Curricular Trips
Uniform
As Autumn is upon us and the weather is more changeable, please do ensure your child brings their Danebury Coat to school with them each day. These are the only coats allowed in school. We have many spare coats which we will loan if a pupil comes in without theirs.
A polite reminder that trainers aren’t permitted without a doctor's note. We appreciate that shoes do break from time to time. If this happens, we will loan black school shoes to those who need them.
Finally, thank you to our wonderful PTA for organising the first Danebury Quiz night, lots of fun was had by all. Profits go back into school to enhance our pupil’s education.
Have a good week.
Warm wishes
Nicky Goodridge
