  • Languages Day

    Published 26/09/25, by Susan Braidley

We had such a wonderful and multicultural day at Danebury today. We started off the day with Mrs Knight doing the morning line-up announcements in all the European languages we speak here at Danebury. Pupils were then greeting their teachers and doing their registers in different languages throughout the day in many subjects. Staff were very impressed with the different languages being used by the pupils. During the breaks, we had the canteen decorated and we played some pop music from different countries around Europe - it was so nice to hear songs we may not have heard before. We also had a crafting task to create some bunting on the theme of 'why are languages important?' and a treasure hunt finding different language phrases around the school. Outside we had lots of fun with the pinata full of goodies and then some very competitive games of boules. What a great day at Danebury!

British Food Fortnight 26th September to 12th October 2025

British Food Fortnight starts today!  Choosing British food means enjoying the diverse and delicious food that our varied countryside and seasonal climate produces. It is a way of rejoicing in the food that is grown on our doorsteps, tasting a part of Britain’s heritage, supporting farmers who maintain our beautiful countryside.

Feedback on Our New Food Curriculum

KS3 pupils have started work on a brand new curriculum this term.  The aim of the curriculum is not only to teach pupils about food and nutrition and develop their skills as cooks, but also to instill the love of cooking in them.  Each lesson pupils are learning how to transfer their food to a plate in the most attractive way possible.

We are certainly making the most of our 5 lessons per fortnight.  We would be very interested in your feedback on how your child is getting on and whether they are proud of the food they bring home.  We do appreciate that pupils have had more than one practical lesson most weeks and we are aware that there is a cost implication for parents and carers.  Please do give us your feedback on whether the balance of practical and theory lessons is right.  Please email Mr Page at pagea@danebury.hispmat.org with your views.

Year 10 pupils are studying a course which is new to the school, Hospitality and Catering, which is provided by the WJEC examination board.  Pupils are being encouraged to work as if they are in a professional kitchen, so far, have risen superbly to the challenge.  Again feedback is gratefully received.

Year 11 pupils are continuing with the second year of the AQA GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition course and have made an excellent start to their NEA1 Food Investigation task.

  • Year 7 Camp

    Published 19/09/25, by Susan Braidley

On Friday 26th September we will be hosting our annual Year 7 camping evening at school. We ask for a contribution of £5.00 towards food and entertainment for the evening. You can sign up and pay on Arbour. If you have any concerns regarding the payment, please contact Mr Thomas (thomasm@danebury.hispmat.org).

The camping evening will start straight from the end of the school day and will conclude on Saturday 27th at 9am.

The collection point on Saturday 27th September will be at the bottom car park (closest to the bottom field). Here, a colleague or I will meet you to sign your child out. Please collect your child between 9-9:15am.

We will be providing tents for all pupils, so please do not bring in tents. No campfire equipment of any form required.

    Things to bring:

    Essential

    • Sleeping bag/duvet (and blankets to sleep on)
    • Pillow
    • Pyjamas
    • Warm clothes
    • Toiletries - toothbrush
    • Blankets
    • Change of clothes
    • Coat
    • Medication (if required)
    • Camping light/torch
    • Water bottle

The school will be providing dinner and breakfast. As well as cartons of juice throughout the night/morning. Your child can bring snacks, but we recommend no big bottles of fizzy, for obvious reasons. Please provide your child with a reusable water bottle that they can refill at the water stations throughout the evening.

The schedule of the evening will consist of setting up camp, games (such as ultimate frisbee & rounders), dinner, cinema and some social time before bed. All children will have some breakfast and juice provided in the morning before being collected.

The evening will be a no mobile phone event. Pupils will have their phones before bed for an hour to contact home to wish them goodnight before the phones are locked away to ensure the children are immersed with nature. Of course, if one of the children becomes homesick or sad, we will give them their phones to contact you.

The event will go ahead regardless of adverse weather. We will plan to camp on the field, but if the weather does not allow this or the forecast looks concerning, we will camp in the sports hall.

If you have any questions, concerns or queries, please do contact me at thomasm@danebury.hispmat.org.
