Consultation on Proposed Reduction of Published Admission Number (PAN).

Danebury School is consulting on a proposal to reduce its Published Admission Number (PAN) from 156 to 120 places for year 7, effective from September 2027.

Rationale

The current PAN of 156 means that up to 156 pupils can be admitted into year 7. However, recent demographic data and local authority forecasts indicate a sustained decline in secondary school-age population within our planning area. This has resulted in surplus places across local schools, which impacts efficient use of resources and long-term financial sustainability.

Reducing the PAN will:

• Align capacity with projected demand for places.
• Ensure class sizes remain appropriate for high-quality teaching and learning.
• Support the school’s ability to maintain a broad curriculum and staffing stability.

No changes are proposed to the oversubscription criteria or any other aspect of our admissions arrangements.

Impact

• This change will apply to year 7 from September 2027.
• Pupils currently on roll or with confirmed places for September 2026 will not be affected.
• There will continue to be sufficient places locally to meet parental preference.

Consultation Process

In accordance with the School Admissions Code, we are required to consult for a minimum of six weeks between 1 October and 31 January in the determination year. Our consultation will run from 2^nd December 2025 to 23^rd January 2026.

We invite parents, carers, staff, local schools, the Local Authority, and other stakeholders to share their views.
