We would all like to congratulate Jack on his outstanding GCSE results. He is one of only 340 in England that have achieved grade 9 in all 9 subjects taken. This is a huge achievement and credit to Jack and his hard work and dedication. We all think he is amazing and wish him all the best in his future studies. We look forward to hearing what comes next for Jack.
This week we launched - Drop Everything and Read (DEAR)
What
20 minutes of silent reading every day
How
You will need to have a book with you every day
Why
Reading a little bit every day has MASSIVE advantages – you could potentially learn 1,800,000 new words this academic year!
Picture: Victoria receiving her 1st place rosette at the National qualifier.
Over the summer holidays, Victoria competed at the Regional qualifier for British Working Equitation and then also at the National qualifier, both of which she won. This means that she has qualified for the National Championships in October 2024. Well Done!
For each row completed, you will receive a positive point in September! The more you complete, the more positives you receive!
P.S – Please take pictures of you reading and email them to bartonc@testvalley.hants.sch.uk, and we can post them to social media and the next academic year's newsletter!
In School we have had a community building project, with a team of dedicated pupils built an ‘Oracy Circle’ for groups to use outside with their teachers during whole class discussions and reading activities. In addition, they have built new benches for our Forest School, built a herb garden outside the food room and planted lots of new vegetables in our allotment. They have also cleared the animal areas.
King Charles visited Middle Wallop Army Flying Museum this past week to unveil a new Apache AHMK1 at the Army Flying Museum.
Zack in Year 10 (looking very smart in school uniform), was fortunate enough to speak with the King and was asked about his homework!
It has been brought to our attention that some of our students may be accessing the website Ome.tv. This is the second version of a video messaging platform that was previously called Omegle.
Omegle was closed down by the Police force because of the high number of online grooming incidents that resulted from its use. You can read more about this through this BBC link https://www.bbc.com/news/business-67364634.
We recommend that parents consider safety controls on their children’s phones and regularly discuss the importance of online safety. We will be reiterating these messages through assemblies and the tutor programme. If you have any concerns about what is on your child’s phone or who may have contacted them, we recommend you report this to the police in the first instance.
